Turkey

In 2007 I was invited to participate to participate in a two-week artist’s workshop in Turkey.  The workshop was organized by faculty at Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir and took place at the University’s summer camp in Ürzmek, on the Aegean coast southwest of Izmir.  I was one of a dozen international ceramic artists working in the studio, sharing information and ideas.  We had a crew of undergraduate and graduate volunteers from Dokuz EylülWe available to roll our coils and slabs and bring us tea, ice water, beer, or snacks.  We were spoiled rotten.  We made and fired a lot of ceramic work, swam in the Aegean every afternoon, ate excellent Turkish food, drank a lot of Efes pilsner, and took a number of group excursions to historic sites in western Turkey.  At the conclusion of the workshop I spent four days in Istanbul, exploring that magical, timeless city.  There are captions on all the images, but I’ll add more notes as I have time.
